Angela Thorpe Instructor
Life Coach. Yoga & Pilates Senior Teacher
Hi, welcome to Holistic fitness. If you’re looking at this section I guess you want to know more about me.
After an eventful and challenging childhood I decided early on in life that humans are meant to be happy and healthy – and I realised we can use and control our own body and a mind to be happier and healthier.
I had childhood arthritis and my joints were stiff, tight and often swollen and painful – so I began practing yoga at the age of 9 years. The effectiveness of yoga and it’s many benefits gave me a life long fascination with how we can help ourselves to be healthy and happy.
I completed a BSc(Hons) in Medical Science and worked in both the private health sector and NHS before training as a fitness instructor and personal trainer.
As well as physical fitness, the training included motivation and coaching techniques but I wanted to know more about what stops people from believing they deserve health and happiness; so alongside my health and fitness teaching I have also studied extensive techniques in Life Coaching and Hypnotherapy.
The Yoga Bit – I have been teaching Yoga for over 25 years now having completed both a Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapy Diploma with the British School of Yoga (BSY) before the current international 200hr and 500hr system had been established. Teacher training has improved significantly over the last two decades so I have continued to learn and train to keep my skills at the highest international standards.
I have completed several additional teacher trainings over the years including:
200hr teacher training in Ashtanga Yoga with Brian Cooper
200hr teacher training in Rajadhiraja Yoga
500hr advanced teacher training in Vinyasa Yoga at Sampoorna in India
500hr advanced teacher training in Rajadhiraja Yoga
Advanced Pranayama and Meditation teacher training with Sthira Yoga School.
Yoga Philosophy with Sthira Yoga school
The Pilates Bit – I completed the full 18 month Pilates teacher diploma with Future Fit over 10 years ago and have maintained my skills by attending regular workshops and also studying Stott Pilates techniques, Body Control Pilates techniques alongside the traditional Classical Pilates method. I also use Qi Gong and Somatics techniques to enhance the effectiveness of the sequences I teach.
The Life Coaching Bit – After years of studying self-help books and positive psychology theory, I trained as a Life coach over 15 years ago. Since training I have continued to develop my skills and knowledge from the basic coach levels to become qualified as:
Master Practitioner Life Coach
NLP Master Practitioner
Master Practitioner Hypnotherapist
mBIT (Multiple Brain Integration) coach
I am passionate about living my best life possible byt being healthy and happy – and then teaching others to do the same.
